dork news

Now that Harry Potter is over and done with (for a little while at least) it's time to start counting down to other new and exciting events.

The new George R R Martin roleplaying system for the world of "A song of fire and ice" will be a collaberation between White Wolf publishing and Guardians of Order. That's right, the creators of Vampire, Werewolf, aberant, exalted, and god knows how many other biggies are coming togethor with the beloved writers of BESM and Silver Age Sentinels. I had been gleefully anticipating this game, praying that it wouldn't be d20 or just warmed over d&d like the Wheel of Time series, but when I heard who was making it my gamer's gland got all tingly in funny ways. It will be titled "A Game of Thrones RPG" and will be released this fall about the same time as "Feast of Crows." There will be a special fancy limited edition released in september, with loads of extra features, rules, and content (576 pages). It will also cost your first born child (ok, $99.95, but that's about the same). The regular edition will be released in october and will be 496 pages, and it will only be 49.95. What's horrific is that the primary rules which will be in both books are based off of d20, which makes me so sad. However, in the fancy deluxe edition, they include the rules for GoO's tri-stat system. I'm seriously considering shelling out the cash for it. No one will ever touch it though, I'll just keep it in a protective casing and sleep upon it like a covetous dragon.

other news

Robert Jordan's next book is coming out. Now before everyone's eyes glaze over and you all skip this section, this is interesting. He's declared an end to the series. This next book is called "Knife of Dreams" and will go on sale October 11. It is the penultimate book in the series. He has already begun working on what will be the last book. The series that would not end now has a conclusion in sight. I do a jig for the closure I might be getting in the foreseeable future. (note: this does not count out the prequels. in fact I know of 2 more prequals that are already in the works, so this announcement means absolutely nothing).

Terry Brooks: I'm the only person I know who still reads Terry Brooks, so I don't know why I bother. Anyways, the third book in the High Druid of Shannara series will be coming out September 6. It is titled "Straken".

Mercedes Lackey:
She has about 20 books coming out, but the ones of note are:
"Wizards of London" 11/1/05, the 5th book in the elemental masters series
"Crossroads and other Tales of Valdemar" 12/1/05, yet another anthology of stories from the valdemar world
"Mapping the World of Harry Potter" 1/1/06, a collection of essays on the world of harry potter
"Elvenbred", no date set, the fourth book of her collaberation with andre norton, the halfblood series.

Now for her majesty, Jacqueline Carey
This coming month, august, "Godslayer" will be released. The first book of the imriel series has been completed, and she has begun work on the second book in that series, which she is toying with calling "Kushiel's Justice". The first book I think will be titled "Kushiel's Scion", because I can't find any other title anywhere. There is no official release date as of yet, but she finished writing it in march of this year, and said it would be released in about a year or so from that time, so we should be expecting it right around march or april of 2006, conveniently close to Lunacon (yay!). "Kushiel's Justice" is also tentatively slated for spring 2007.
